#GivingDayUMD: You Make a Difference in AAST!
Giving Day is a 24-hour fundraising event held on March 3 for all members of the University of Maryland community. Students, faculty, staff, parents, friends and alumni are invited to join the largest day of giving because we are all Terps! The goal is to raise critical funding and engage our community to advance the mission of the University of Maryland.
The Asian American Studies Program (AAST) at the University of Maryland initially started through student activism and dedicated faculty. For over 20 years, AAST has taught thousands of students on the identities and experiences of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. AAST offers a vibrant program of study and support to University of Maryland students as they learn how to navigate multiple and intersecting identities, how racial categories are continually (re)constructed with various consequences, and how representation and inclusion are vital yet often remain elusive. AAST provides social, political, cultural, psychological, and historical approaches to understanding our diverse and rapidly growing community. As the fastest growing race-ethnic group with members from many different origins, the experiences of Asian Americans also speaks to how migration and transnationalism affect identity and belonging. We have partnered with the broader Asian American and Pacific Islander community to create opportunities for our students to engage, serve, and thrive through research, activism, internships, and scholarships.

This new endowment establishes permanent funds for the Major General Antonio Taguba Profiles in Courage and Leadership Scholarships. The endowment also honors the original fundraising and commitment by the community to support our students.
