M Pease (AAST Minor '22), Publishes Op-Ed for The Baltimore Sun on Protecting Trans Communities

On Monday, April 1, 2024, M Pease (AAST Minor ‘22) published an op-ed in The Baltimore Sun titled, “Maryland must protect and uplift trans communities” discussing the need for the passage of SB 119 (protecting gender-affirming care in Maryland from out-of-state investigations) as well as general investment into trans communities in the State. 

Sunday was International Trans Day of Visibility, a day commemorating the strength, resilience and joy of trans people and communities. As a trans person, I found myself reflecting on what it means to be “visible” today. With  hundreds of anti-trans and broader anti-LGBTQIA-plus bills already proposed in state legislatures this year,  it hurts me to see people reacting to our visibility with attempts to erase it.
